Position Information

Harrington Park PS is a large primary school located in the Camden Local Government Area. The current  enrolment of 685 students, with approximately 6% Aboriginal students and 19% students from English as an Additional Language or Dialect. The school was established in 2002 and has well-equipped modern facilities. It has had major building works over the last four years to provide 13 new classroom spaces, as well as new library, hall and admin block. The school also has a special purpose unit including two MC classes and one AUIO. The executive staff consists of a principal, two deputy principals and six assistant principals. The staff ranges in the level of experience, with some very experienced teachers who combine well with a growing number of early career teachers. A strong and positive relationship exists between the school and the community. The school's changing demographic allows opportunities to celebrate and engage the diverse school community. The school P&C is very supportive. The school maintains a strong commitment to the development of literacy and numeracy skills, with a focus in our current School Improvement Plan on improving student outcomes, improving teacher practices and supporting student in their efforts to be contemporary and highly engaged learners. Harrington Park Public School has also achieved many successes in sport, creative and performing arts and Environmental education which are embedded in school programs and practices. 

Selection Criteria

  1. In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach Special Education and/or demonstrated experience and expertise in leading the collaborative delivery of quality, personalised teaching and learning programs to support students with autism, intellectual disability and complex communication needs that can impact on behaviour and learning engagement
  2. Capacity to lead a support unit, effectively managing the dual role of an Assistant Principal and exemplary classroom teacher, with the proven ability to strengthen collaborative practice within a support unit team, including, but not limited to, parents and carers, and external stakeholders, that builds staff capabilities to ensure a cohesive, effective team to enhance student learning and wellbeing outcomes
  3. Demonstrated capacity to work with the school leadership team to foster a school-wide culture and practice of inclusion and equity and drive continuous improvement as part of a dynamic leadership team.

General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
