Position Information
Lomandra School is a large NSW Department of Education setting for students with complex mental health needs, severe challenging behaviours, and emotional disturbance. Located in Campbelltown, Lomandra School currently supports 88 students in Years 5–12. The school includes 8 designated Behaviour Disorder (BD) classes and 5 designated Emotional Disturbance (ED) classes. Each class typically consists of 7 students and is supported by a teacher and a School Learning Support Officer (SLSO).
Lomandra School also manages the Campbelltown Suspension Centre, which supports students from Kindergarten to Year 12 who are referred while on suspension. The program is staffed by a Head Teacher and a School Learning Support Officer, and provides targeted teaching and support strategies designed to maintain student engagement and continuity of learning during periods of suspension.
In addition, Lomandra School provides professional support to the Assistant Principal Learning and Support team, the Support Teacher Transition team, and an Out of Home Care (OOHC) teacher, all of whom are based across the Lomandra School site and the Lithgow Street campus.
This position is based at Lomandra School in Campbelltown, NSW and will supports schools in one of four Principal networks: Campbelltown, Macarthur, Camden, and Wollondilly.
The Assistant Principal Learning and Support will support schools to provide direct and timely assistance to students with additional learning and support needs and their teachers. Many of these students come from diverse cultural, linguistic and socio-economic backgrounds. The Disability Standards for Education 2005 provide the context for the role and activities of the Learning and Support Teacher.
General Selection Criteria
- Successful teaching experience with the capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Approval to teach students with learning and support needs [primary/secondary] and/or experience teaching students with learning and support needs [primary/secondary] in regular classes. Capacity to provide specialist assistance to students in regular classes with additional learning and support needed and their teachers.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication, organisational and management skills, with the capacity to build productive relationships and provide professional support to a range of school-based personnel, families and multidisciplinary teams, including the flexibility to travel between sites.
- In-depth knowledge of the NSW Department of Education Disability Strategy, relevant disability discrimination legislation, and departmental policies and procedures, with the capacity to provide strategic advice and support to schools serving students with additional needs across primary, secondary and specialist settings.
- Knowledge and experience in curriculum, assessment and student wellbeing, with the capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team and enhance the capacity of school-based learning and support teams to implement differentiated educational programs for students with additional learning and support needs and to deliver professional learning.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
